
Alister Clark
Alister Clark (1864-1949) Most of the roses he raised were given
to charities and friends. Clark did not commercially distribute his
roses. Because the roses were kept in private gardens, they were
lost in time. Clark kept his breeding notes on a black notebook that
was left out in the rain and destroyed. A renewed interest in his
roses has led individuals to search for his roses in the private gardens.
One
of his goals was to produce rose that would thrive in the heat of Australia.
He used R. Gigantea is his rose breeding program that does well in the hot
climate.
The Alister Clark Memorial Gardens are maintained by volunteers Bulla, Australia with 60 of his roses.
Clark produced
over 120 roses.
